Twentieth-century Children's Writers

The main part of the book covers some 800 writers, most of whose work for children was published after 1900; the appendix is of some important representative writers of the 19th century. Each entry consists of a biography, a list of separately published books (for children and for adults), and a signed critical essay. Some of the living entrants have commented on their work. Original British and US editions of all books have been listed; other editions are listed only if they are first editions. Illustrators of first editions are included. A supplement lists translated foreign authors (and their works). Advisers and contributors (some 300) are identified and their qualifications cited. Indexed by title.
